S. Putnam No. 6 in Class A, Riverton Parke, S. Vermillion receive votes in Week 5 football polls

South Putnam is ranked sixth in the Indiana Football Coaches Association 1A poll entering Week 5..

The Eagles (2-2) recovered from back-to-back losses to fourth-ranked (2A) Indianapolis Lutheran and rival North Putnam with a 41-14 win at Greencastle last week. South Putnam will host Edgewood (2-2) Friday.

North Judson (4-0) is the top-ranked team in 1A followed by Providence (4-0), Carroll (Flora) (4-0), LaVille (2-2) and North Decatur (3-1) in the top five.

Riverton Parke received votes for the 1A top 10 and is ranked 16th. The Panthers 3-1 record matches their start in 2022. Before that, the last time Riverton Parke was 3-1 was 2002. The Panthers host North Vermillion (3-1) on Friday.

South Vermillion dominated rival North Vermillion 48-6 last Friday. The Wildcats are ranked 16th in the latest 2A poll and have a 4-0 record for the first time since 2020 and only the second time since 2009.

South Vermillion hosts Covington (2-2) this week.

Lafayette Central Catholic (3-0) tops the 2A poll followed by unbeaten teams Brownstown Central and North Posey. Indianapolis Lutheran and Adams Central, both 3-1, round out the top five.

Monrovia is the ninth ranked team in the 2A poll. The Bulldogs (3-1) defeated #10 Triton Central last week, 35-21. In Week 4, Triton Central snapped Lutheran’s 45-game win streak.

Evansville Memorial (4-0) is atop the 3A poll. Tri-West (2-2) is ranked #13.

In 4A, New Palestine (4-0) is ranked number one. An undefeated Martinsville Artesians football team has moved up to fifth in the poll.

Valparaiso is the top-ranked team in 5A. Mid-State rivals Plainfield and Whiteland are ranked sixth and seventh with Decatur Central at number nine.

At the top of the 6A poll it’s another Hendricks County team in Brownsburg.
