
The final week of the regular season kicks off tonight and then all attention in both Parke and Vermillion counties will turn to the IHSAA Boys Basketball Sectional Tournament.
With the brackets released Sunday evening, it is time to start looking at where teams will head on their pursuit to Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the state finals.
Parke Heritage, South Vermillion to open Class 2A Sectional 41 in Greencastle
Parke Heritage (18-4) will open the tournament against North Putnam (6-16) on Tuesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. The two teams did not play during the regular season.
The Wolves have been lights out during the month of February, bringing a four game win streak into tomorrow's contest against Linton-Stockton.
The winner of the first game will then take on Greencastle (16-6) on Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m. The Tiger Cubs defeated North Putnam, 58-39, and did not play Parke Heritage in the regular season.
The other first round game in the sectional pits South Vermillion (11-10) against South Putnam (6-14) immediately following the conclusion of game one on March 5. This marks the first meeting between the two teams this season. The winner will advance to take on Southmont (15-6) in the second game of Friday's semi-final action. South Vermillion lost 73-60 to Southmont on Feb. 11.
Riverton Parke, North Vermillion chasing Class A Sectional 53 title
North Vermillion will host Class A Sectional 53 and will look to cut down the nets in its own gymnasium at the conclusion of the sectional tournament.
The Falcons (16-6) are riding a three game win streak into the final week of the regular season and will open the sectional tournament against Covington (10-13) on Tuesday, March 4.
North Vermillion held off Covington, 54-53, on Jan. 31. The winner will play Faith Christian (4-17) on Friday in the semi-final. North Vermillion and Faith Christian did not play during the regular season.
As for Riverton Parke (7-14), the Panthers open the sectional against Attica (3-15) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers defeated Attica, 66-50, earlier this season.
The winner will play the winner of Lafayette Central Catholic (9-12) and Fountain Central (5-16), who will open Wednesday's action. Riverton Park beat Fountain Central, 36-24, and did not play LCC.
