The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning to undertake a signal modernization project, funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration.The project is located at the intersection of US 231 and Market Street in Cloverdale Township, Cloverdale, Putnam County, Indiana.
Under the preferred alternative, the proposed project intends to install curb extensions and curb ramps in all four quadrants of the intersection to give a landing area for push button access and to provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant clearance around traffic signal strain poles. New pedestrian push button pedestals will be added to all four quadrants of the intersection. Additionally, existing pedestrian heads on signal strain poles will be removed and new pedestrian poles and pedestrian heads will be added in all four quadrants as the existing pedestrian devices do not meet current ADA standards.No right-of-way (ROW) acquisition will be required for the proposed project.

The proposed action impacts this property listed in or eligible for the NRHP. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), on behalf of the FHWA, has issued a “No Adverse Effect” finding for the projectbecause the project will not diminish the integrity of the characteristics that qualify the historic properties within the APE for inclusion in the NRHP. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, the views of the public are being sought regarding the effect of the proposed project on the historic elements as per 36 CFR 800.2(d), 800.3(e) and 800.6(a)(4). Pursuant to 36 CFR 800.4(d)(2), the documentation specified in 36 CFR 800.11(e) is available for inspection in the Evansville, IN office of Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. Additionally, this documentation can be viewed electronically by accessing INDOT’s Section 106 document posting website IN SCOPE at http://erms12c.indot.in.gov/Section106Documents. This documentation serves as the basis for the “No Adverse Effect” finding. The views of the public on this effect finding are being sought.
