Aguirre, leadership unanimously re-elected for Putnam County Democrats

Four familiar faces will continue to serve the Putnam County Democratic Party following a recent election during a reorganization meeting. 

The county party elected current Greencastle City Councilman Vincent Aguirre back to Chair, while Jackie Roberts will continue to serve as Vice Chair, Christopher Oldstone-Moore as Secretary and former Greencastle Mayor BIll Dory was elected as Treasurer. 

"Our party's leadership from the local level to the state and national stage is determined by those of us in our communities, through grassroots efforts like what we are doing here in Putnam County," Aguirre, who is the only Democrat elected in Putnam County. 

Roberts said the local party has seen new engagement over the past year and there is growing momentum within the party. 

"We have seen a wave of enthusiasm and involvement from people who want to make a real difference. We are proud to be leading grassroots efforts that go beyond politics -- giving back, advocating for working families and improving the lives of people here in Putnam County," Roberts said. 

Dory said that while the party only holds one officeholder, it has been able to achieve great things in recent years. 

"Right now, we may only hold one elected office in the county, but I hope people are paying attention to how Democrats govern locally. Our focus is on providing real options for residents beyond one party rule -- options that bring actual change benefitting our community," Dory said. 

Dory pointed to the efforts Aguirre has made as a councilman, noting the additions of Bankshot basketball at Maple Berry Park, as well his efforts to secure a $40,000 planning grant in support of local childhood. 

"In my many years involved in the community, I have seldom seen a council member of any party work as hard in their first year as Vincent Aguirre. His commitment to government transparency and working for the people of Greencastle is the type of leadership our local communities need," Dory said. 

As the party continues to move forward this year, Aguirre invites all to take part in the process, regardless of party affiliation. 

"We know it takes all of us in Putnam County to make change. And real change happens locally, not from career politicians in D.C. or Indianapolis, regardless of their party," Aguirre said.
