For the second consecutive month, Cloverdale Town officials discussed the horrid conditions on Monon Avenue and what the future may hold for what town council Brandon Tancak called "the worst street in town."

Tancak told council it was the "hopes and dreams" of council to make Monon Avenue right.

"I drove it and it is falling apart. There are large holes in the road, but it is the worst street in town limits currently. We are still working behind the scenes on correcting Monon in several aspects, but it is going to take time before all those pieces fall in place," said Tancak, who urged fellow council members to drive the street and see the issues up close.

Town Manager Jason Hartman told council last month that United Consulting did survey work and determined the path of the asphalt doesn't follow the path of land the town owns. United Consulting is expected to get information to town officials next week pertaining to a proposal to do work.

"I did contact contractors about taking a look at it. Weather has taken a toll on it. We have patched it over the last year, but what we have out there now is it's just falling off. My argument to the contractor is I don't want anything expensive, I want to get through two years. Our plan is to come back and actually relocate the road and build it correctly. I don't want to put a huge amount of money into it, but the road is to the point where one part is a safety issue. We don't have asphalt plants open right now and earliest we may get to it is April, but it needs it. We are working on long-term resolutions," Hartman told council.

In addition, there are issues with CSX, as some of Monon Avenue sits on CSX property, according to Tancak.

"We had an in person meeting back in December and we drove and walked tracks from one end of town to the next. Jason and I listed our concerns and what our future looks like for what we like to see the Town of Cloverdale look like with the active railway. We just heard back and hope to have a decision in March on what they plan to do when it comes to working with the Town of Cloverdale," Tancak said.
