A dinner aimed at helping support affordable housing in Putnam County will be held June 7.
According to officials with the Putnam County Fuller Center for Housing, Airy Knob Farm will host a Farm to Table Dinner on June 7.
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and will last until 8:30 p.m. and the cost is $600 for a table of eight or $90 for a single ticket. The last day to RSVP is May 30, and money is due that day as well for tickets. All proceeds go to support affordable housing in Putnam County.
"The Fuller Center has been in the community since 1988. We were once an affiliate for Habitat for Humanity, and we did a number of projects and builds before going inactive for a period of time. Under the leadership of our current executive director, David English, Habitat was revitalized and we did what I think some people in the community thought we couldn't and we built a home in Greencastle for a family in the midst of Covid. Since then, we completed an apartment garage kit for a lady in Fillmore and have done a trailer remodel in Greencastle. I think we are showing our potential in this community to show affordable housing is a big issue in Greencastle and the county, We are excited to have the community come out and see what we are all about," Brand Selvia, Secretary for Fuller Center of Housing, told The Putnam County Post.
Selvia said there is a huge need for affordable housing in Putnam County.
"The way we see it at Fuller is we are focused on helping a family meet the traditional mortgage and have safe housing. It is a big need and big issue. I see it connected to community safety. If you don't have safe and stable housing, that puts folks in a tough spot. What we are trying to do is be a connector between not having that housing and having that housing. Partnerships are huge to what we are doing. We have created a lot of positive partner partnerships to help people out," Selvia said.
Selvia mentioned the event will feature Blue Flame, a local bluegrass band, food and an opportunity to learn more about the Fuller Center and what plans the organization has to help bridge a need.
"We want to have a lot of stakeholders who can help us realize this vision of affordable housing. We are in the process of building a duplex type building in Greencastle, and we are currently trying to work with Beyond Homes Inc. and the City of Greencastle to get transitional housing in the city of Greencastle. That is coming along really nicely, and we have some grant money in the mix as well. We are very excited about that, but we want to be very methodical about all of this," Selvia acknowledged.
