Several fire departments from around Putnam County made their way to Cloverdale Wednesday afternoon to fight a fire at the Econo Lodge.
According to first responders, a maintenance man at the motel was using a heat gun to put down carpet and it got too hot, causing a fire to happen.
The fire was contained to an outside wall of a stairwell that went from the ground to the roof. Responding firefighters from Cloverdale and Greencastle were able to knock the fire down in a matter of minutes, keeping it all to the exterior of the building.
