Parke Heritage shuts down Greencastle

It has been said that defense wins championships and for the Parke Heritage boys basketball team, its defense helped pave the way to a spot in the Class 2A Sectional 41 championship.

Backed by a defense that held Greencastle to 36 points, the Wolves broke open a tight game in the second half en route to a commanding 51-36 victory.

With the win, Parke Heritage improved to 22-4, while the Tiger Cubs saw their season end at 17-7.

Both teams struggled to find their footing in the early moments, as the Wolves settled in for a 5-3 lead after the first quarter.

The lead would swell to 16-7 midway through the second quarter before Parke Heritage went to the locker room ahead 17-10.

The halftime break did little to slow the Wolves, who found themselves ahead 31-19 with just over a minute to go in the third quarter. Carter Crum proved to be the difference in the quarter, as his seven points helped propel the Wolves in the quarter.

The Wolves were able to put the game away in the fourth quarter at the free throw line.

Crum led the way for Wolves with 15, while Isaac Pickel had 12.

Greencastle was paced by Trevin Long, who had 13 before fouling out.
