A political newcomer will head up Putnam County's first chapter of an organization aimed at giving women a voice in politics.
Amanda Brown, who earned a spot in the November general election after finishing third in the Putnam County Council at-large Republican primary, has been nominated to lead the Indiana Federation of Republican Women's county chapter.
"It was amazing to be nominated and I was honored that the local political constituents had the faith in me that I could run a local based operation with connections state wide," Brown told The Putnam County Post.
Brown admitted the chapter will be locally based, but also involved in matters on a state wide view as well.
"There are statewide luncheons and networking opportunities. This is a time to connect with local women who have the same beliefs and push to do what's best for our government," Brown said.
The chapter has several initiatives, including increasing the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government, informing the public through political education and activity, fostering loyalty to the Republican Party at all levels and working for Republican candidates in all elections.
"In hopes that we can get more women involved, I have been nominated to lead this chapter. Women are strong and excellent leaders, and it is imperative we are involved in the political world to have a voice for change and a voice for those that deserve it," Brown told The Putnam County Post.
Brown said the chapter allows an opportunity to be get involved and learn about networking and change.
"I am excited to join women together and lead them in finding opportunities like I have been given to make their voices heard," she said.
Brown said the first meeting will be scheduled once there are 10 women signed up. She said for legality purposes, there has to be a minimum of 10 people to be considered a chapter, something she is hopeful to have by the end of July.
"The goal is to have our first meeting at the end of July or beginning of August after we are officially a chapter," Brown said.
