Trio of Terre Haute residents arrested in Greencastle

A trio of Terre Haute residents found themselves behind bars in the Putnam County Jail this week after being arrested on two separate incidents.

According to records from the Greencastle Police Department, officers were dispatched Monday evening to a residential entry and burglary call at Castlebury Apartments. The incident resulted in an injury to the occupant of the apartment.

"This is a horrible incident that required a lot of law enforcement resources. We are thankful for the assistance of outside agencies and their attention to detail with descriptions given over the radio, as well as assistance on the scenes. Several high priority calls at the same time, along with staff shortages could have resulted in the suspects not being located and taken off the streets," Greencastle Police assistant chief Ed Wilson said.

While en route to the scene, officers learned the suspects had left Castlebury Apartments and another call came in on North Arlington of a male with a firearm outside of a residence. On the way to this call, officers were advised the male had left after getting into a vehicle. The description of both the suspect and vehicle matched that of the Castlebury Apartments incident.

A short time later, an Indiana State Police trooper observed a vehicle that matched the description and an individual matching the suspect description at a location on South Bloomington Street and initiated a traffic stop. The driver exited the vehicle and entered a residence on Maple Street. Once other officers arrived, the suspect attempted to flee the residence. After a brief period, the suspect was taken into custody after being tased.

While on his way to the scene on Maple Street, Greencastle Police officer Alec Pettit observed two males matching descriptions of the suspects from the earlier incident and was able to detain them.

The individuals taken into custody were: Anthony Hicks, Russell Woods and Khahyil Moore, all of Terre Haute.

Hicks was charged with a Level 5 felony count of robbery, a Level 6 felony of battery, a Level 6 felony charge of residential entry, a Level 6 felony of Operating while intoxicated with prior offense, a Class A misdemeanor of resisting law enforcement and a Class A misdemeanor of Driving while suspended.

Woods was charged with a Level 5 felony charge of robbery, a Level 6 felony of residential entry and a Level 6 felony of battery. Moore was charged with a Level 5 felony of robbery, a Level 6 felony of residential entry and a Level 6 felony battery charge.

Those responding including the Greencastle Police, Indiana State Police, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, DePauw Police, Greencastle Fire Department and the Putnam County EMS.
