Don E. Crouse, 85, of Columbus

Don E. Crouse, 85, of Columbus, Indiana passed away on April 13, 2024 at The Restoracy of Whitestown.

Don was born on February 28, 1939, in Clay City, Indiana, the son of Alva Marion and Gladys L. (Light) Crouse. He graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1958 and then from Indiana State University with a double major in mathematics and chemistry in 1962. He married Geraldine Delaine (Pell) on July 4, 1965. Don worked at Allison Gas Turbine Division of General Motors as a chemist and metallurgist for 29 years. He also spent some time with Cummins Engine. Following retirement, Don worked as an instructor for Atterbury Job Corps in Edinburg. He enjoyed mentoring, giving frequent hugs, and being “Granddad” to all students.

Don served in the Indiana Air National Guard and was a member of the Clay City Masonic Lodge. He loved being outdoors and was an avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alva and Gladys Crouse and his siblings: Austin Crouse, Hubert Crouse, Ray Crouse, Carl Crouse, Martha Elizabeth Crouse, Mary Lou Light, and Dorothy Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Geraldine Crouse; children: Joni Butenhoff, Donn Crouse II (Heather), and Lana Frey (Scott); grandchildren: Zackary Butenhoff, Emily Frey, and Anna Frey, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St. Clay City, Indiana 47841, on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Masonic service will follow with burial to be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
