Glennda Deem, 75, entered her heavenly rest Saturday March 22, 2025 at the Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle.
Glennda was born December 31, 1949, the daughter of Glenn and Leone (Alspaugh) Deem. She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1968 and attended Lockyear College in Evansville and graduated from Vincennes University.
Glennda worked in the Putnam County Courthouse starting in the Recorders office, then served as the first court reporter from the inception of the Putnam County Court in 1976 with Judge William C. Vaughn III. When Judge Vaughn was elected to the Circuit Court in 1980 for two six-year terms, Glennda served as court reporter and office manager in the Putnam Circuit Court. Judge Vaughn, visiting judges, and local attorneys always said she ran the office like a well-oiled machine. She then worked in the same capacity with Judge Diana LaViolette for two years. She left and began working for the State of Indiana where she continued working in the legal field as assistant to the director in the legal department at the Plainfield Regional Diagnostics Center. She finished her working career in the human resource department at the Plainfield Correctional Facility.
Glennda was an over-comer having fought through multiple physical barriers, but her faith in a loving God never failed. She grew up and was baptized in Sherwood Christian Church in Greencastle. Her family then attended First Baptist Church and then New Life Baptist Church in Greencastle. More recently she was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, Putnamville. Glennda had a servant’s heart and spent several years before and after retirement caring for her ailing mother and other family members with love and empathy.
She never married but was dedicated to her parents and extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins whom she dearly loved. Glennda was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by “brother-cousin” Kim McCarson, “sister-cousin” Judith (Duane) Overshiner, Roberta Arnold, Linda (Ted) Sampson, Brad (Tama) and Tracy Alspaugh, Tosha (Larry) App and many “second” cousins and “grand-cousins”.
Private family graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Staggers officiating.
Hopkins Rector Funeral Home is entrusted with her burial.
Glennda requested that memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 (www.stjude.org/donatetoday) which was her favorite charity organization.
