Mrs. Nancy Jane Teske Carlson peacefully passed away on February 28, 2024, in Hanover, IN, with her family by her side.
She was born on November 18, 1929, in Niles, MI, to Rudolph Martin Karl Teske and Freida Meta (Reddin) Teske.
She grew up in Antigo, WI, where her parents owned and operated a men’s clothing store.
She spent her summers in Neenah, WI, with her Gomoll cousins, Donald, Marion, and Shirley, who treated her like a sibling. She also spent time at Bass Lake, near Antigo, with her Green cousins, Jim, Joan, Loraine, and Gail.
She graduated from Antigo High School in 1947 and attended the University of Wisconsin, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1951. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. While at Wisconsin, she met Gustaf “Gus” Raymond Carlson. They were united in holy matrimony in Antigo on September 6, 1952. The union was blessed with two children, Richard “Rick” Raymond, and Karen Jane.
Upon graduating from Wisconsin, Nancy worked as a bank teller in Chicago before beginning her journey as the wife of an Army officer. Her fondest memories were of their time overseas in Germany, driving on the Autobahn, and traveling to Italy. Other stops included Leavenworth, KS; Syracuse, NY; Washington, D.C.; and Indianapolis, IN. Upon Gus’ retirement, they moved to Greencastle, IN, where she lived for 40 years.
Nancy’s hobbies included painting and jigsaw puzzles. For several years, she and Gus traveled to meetings of the U.S. Army Retired Finance Organization (RAFINO). She was a member of the Greencastle VFW Auxiliary and the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. She was a fan of the Peanuts comic strip and had many Snoopy items in her home. She enjoyed various sports, including her beloved Wisconsin Badgers, the Green Bay Packers, the Indiana Hoosiers, the Indiana Pacers, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Indy 500. She loved to play Yahtzee and even played it with her family via Zoom during and after the COVID pandemic. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and golf, as well as ceramics. She was also a Girl Scout leader and loved anything chocolate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son. She is survived by Rick’s wife, Vicki; her daughter, Karen (Keith) Howard; and her grandson, Robby (Diana) Howard. She was known for her kindness and warm, cheerful smile.
Services will be Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wes Kendall officiating.
Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. with the service at noon. The burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
