Wendell Alton Hurst, 93, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born February 12, 1932 in Greencastle, the son of Alton and Elizabeth (Walton) Hurst. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1950”.
Wendell retired from IBM having worked there for over 33 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. His greatest love was singing gospel music having sang with his wife and parents in the Four Hurst Quartet and a Barbershop Quartet for several years. He was a lifelong IU Basketball and Chicago Cubs fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma Hurst; sister Wanda Patterson; and brother Wilfred Hurst.
Wendell is survived by his sons Kenny (Diana) Hurst and Michael (Pat) Hurst; grandchildren Jennifer Hurst, Toni Hurst, Travis (Kari) Hurst, Heath (Jessie) Hurst, Amanda (Jack) Ross, and Matthew (Krystle) Hurst; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
