Basketball camp to benefit Deputy Fislar's family

With a heart for helping others and a desire to give back, former Cloverdale standout basketball player Jalen Moore will hold his annual basketball camp June 9 at Cloverdale High School. 

"My camp is a camp for all kids, boys and girls, to come learn and have fun. The main goal in the camp is for me to be able to teach these kids pointers that can help them in basketball and the real world. I want the kids to come to my camp, go home and say, "I had so much fun, learned, got better and can't wait to go to the next camp,"" Moore told The Putnam County Post. 

The camp is $25 per student and all proceeds will go to the spouse and children of fallen Hendricks County Sheriff Deputy Fred Fislar, who graduated from Cloverdale. Fisler died last month after coming in contact with power lines while checking on a motorist after a vehicle accident. 

"I've always had a heart to help people out. I know that I am in a position today to help people out even more, so I try to do what I can for others who are in need," Moore said of the reasoning behind giving all the funds to the Fislar family. 

Following a successful career with the Clovers, where he averaged 36.8 points and scored 1,033 points as a senior, Moore played college basketball at Olney Central College and Oakland. He currently plays for Hamar in Iceland. 

Moore's camp is open to children ages 7 through 17 and will run from noon to 4 p.m. He said the idea of a camp is something he has always wanted to do dating back to his childhood. 

"I have always had the vision of doing my own basketball camp. Since I was a young kid, I've wanted to do my own camp and be around kids to help them grow on the court and off the court," Moore said.
