At 2-2 and heading into the second half of the 2024 football regular season, the South Putnam defense has found its leader in senior outside linebacker/defensive lineman Zach Dorsett.
For the last two seasons Gibbs has wrecked opposing offenses and has been an instrumental part of the success the Eagles have experienced. However, it was his game last week against Greencastle that turned heads. Dorsett sacked Greencastle quarterback Cole Stephens three times, blocked a punt and had six tackles in the victory.
"I've worked really hard these past four years, and Coach (Chuck) Sorrell has been a key part in pushing me every day and making me a better person and player," Dorsett told The Putnam County Post.
Coming into tonight's contest against Edgewood, Dorsett has seen time at both linebacker and on the line for the Eagles.
"Defensive line is my favorite position, but I have played linebacker, tight end and wide receiver. On the defensive line, I get to hit someone every play and be the first to the quarterback and running back. I played linebacker the first two weeks, but I had been begging my coaches to put me back on the defensive line and when they did, I took full advantage of it and showed them why I should stay," Dorsett said.
Dorsett believes South Putnam still can make a deep run this postseason, something that excites him.
"Our team has so much potential. We have had a couple guys out to injury and they are all starting to come back. We are going to show everyone how good we can really play," Dorsett said.
