As a lineman, Woodall may not get the notoriety of skill position players, but he takes extreme pride in his position.
At 6-foot-2-inches and 255 pounds, North Putnam offensive lineman Braxton Woodall already looks like a college lineman.
And, he's well on his way to making the looks a reality, as the senior recently picked up his first offer, as he offered by Wabash University.
"It was surreal. I played football my whole life but I quit playing once I got to high school and picked it back up last year as a junior. I never could have imagined two years ago that I would be getting college offers to play football," Woodall told The Putnam County Post.
Woodall said he owes being in the position he finds himself in to his offensive line coach, Coach Sanford and head coach Scott Moore.
"Coach Sanford bugged me every day about coming out and playing. After talking with Coach Moore, I decided to come out to a spring practice after baseball practice and it took off from there. I have been working on improving since that day, and our team, as a whole, has put a ton of work in. It has been very rewarding to see everyone get better," Woodall said.
As a lineman, Woodall may not get the notoriety of skill position players, but he takes extreme pride in his position.
"I take the absolute utmost pride in being a lineman. It is something that is actually really important to me. I'm not the guy that gets in the endzone, but I am the guy that gets people in the endzone and my skill guys and coaches give me all the love I need. I am a lineman in all aspects of life. Even when I'm playing basketball, I love to set screens for my teammates so they can score. Offensive line is the perfect position for me, and I love every single part of it," Woodall said.
A season ago, the Cougars finished 3-7 after opening the season 0-4. Woodall said when he looks back on last year, he sees a lot of young guys playing on both sides of the football.
"We had a ton of young guys playing both sides of the football and it really showed in some moments. This year, everyone has that Friday night experience and everyone is hungry for this season because we know what we can accomplish. Another huge thing that stands out is our attendance this summer. One of our Day 0 goals was to have almost perfect attendance, and I think everyone showed up and worked hard for the couple hours every morning," Woodall said.
North Putnam opens the season Aug. 23 against North Montgomery, and Woodall and his teammates enter with high hopes.
"Our biggest goal for this year is to win a sectional title. We are in the new sectional with some unfamiliar teams and some pretty solid teams, but we are going to run through anyone in our way. Another goal is to win our home opener against North Montgomery, which is a team that has given us trouble in the past. If we can start off on the right track against them, the sky is the limit for our team this year. Another goal, as it is every year, is to beat Greencastle. After falling just short twice last year, it's definitely a goal to take them down this year. I am excited to showcase what we can do," Woodall said.
