The march to the 13th sectional championship for the South Putnam football team hits the road tonight as the Eagles head to Covington.
The Eagles advanced to tonight's road contest after knocking off Fountain Central, 54-7, while Covington defeated Attica, 48-7.
A week ago, South Putnam got off to a strong start, according to head coach Chuck Sorrell, and that is something he wants to see again this week from his team.
"We have continued to start the games strong. That's a great thing as you advance in the tournament. Our seniors have taken charge at practice to ensure we have really good Tuesdays and Wednesdays that have carried over to Friday nights," Sorrell told The Putnam County Post.
Sorrell said Covington has a strong backfield that will have the attention of the South Putnam defense.
"Covington has a really good running back and quarterback. We will have to be able to stop the run in our base fronts to allow our defensive backs to cover the backs," Sorrell said.
As for keys to a victory, the veteran coach said South Putnam must do three things well.
"We need to have a strong start, get our athletes the ball and win the line of scrimmage," he said.
