Tonight's South Putnam - Riverton Parke sectional championship can be heard on our sister station, GIANT fm Sports WAXI 104.9.
The South Putnam football team will look to bring its 13th sectional championship home tonight when the Eagles travel to Riverton Park for the Class A Sectional 45 matchup.
The Eagles (9-2) advanced after knocking off Covington, 53-20, last week, while Riverton Parke (8-3) outlasted North Vermillion, 35-33.
"The group has had this as one of their goals all year long. We have put ourselves in position to play in this game, and now we have to do the things necessary to win," South Putnam coach Chuck Sorrell told The Putnam County Post.
South Putnam enters tonight's game on a seven game win streak, allowing seven points or less in six of those games. Much like the Eagles, Riverton Parke has also been playing well as of late, winning five straight games with a Wing-T led offense that doesn't throw the ball at all at times, as was evidenced in last week's victory. The Panthers wracked up 405 yards on the ground, with Kyle Price rushing for 152 and AJ Goff adding another 149. On the season, Price has rushed for over 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Goff has added another 814 yards and 12 trips to the end zone.
"Riverton Parke looks really good. They are well coached and physical. They block to the end of the whistle and run the ball hard. We have to win the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to win tonight. It should be a great night of football between two well coached teams that are playing really well," Sorrell said.
