Due to the success the Eagles had on the gridiron, Pelfrey missed the first tournament of the season and the first duel match was cancelled.

After a successful football season that saw Preston Pelfrey play for a Class A semi-state title, the South Putnam junior is starting to get his wrestling legs under him, as he is ready to hit the mats.

Due to the success the Eagles had on the gridiron, Pelfrey missed the first tournament of the season and the first duel match was cancelled.

"I am looking to start off strong, keep working and capitalize on those to have a great season," Pelfrey told The Putnam County Post.

Ever since middle school, Pelfrey has been wrestling, and it is something the South Putman offensive and defensive lineman "loves."

"A good buddy was always trying to get me into the sport since elementary school. I never did it because I was always a basketball player, but when middle school started, I could do both wrestling and basketball, so I did, and wrestling has been my passion," Pelfrey said.

A year ago, Pelfrey was in the shadows of Aiden Beadles at 215 and is looking to have a breakout campaign this season.

"This year, I am looking to start by winning county. My freshman year, I was one mistake away from a county championship, so I am starting with that and planning to do some bigger things after working day by day," he said.

As for what winning a Putnam County wrestling title would mean, Pelfrey said it would be the start.

"Winning county would be the start of what I am really going to prove this season. Aiden always taught me to give everything, don't quit and always be grateful for what you are capable of," Pelfrey said.
