Terre Haute North, South athletics to join new-look Sagamore Conference.

Two Vigo County high schools have accepted an invitation to join the Sagamore Conference.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association sanctioned conference formally invited both Terre Haute North High School and Terre Haute South High School in early April. 

“The Sagamore Conference has a long-standing tradition of excellence and will afford great competition and learning experiences for our student athletes,” says Vigo County Superintendent Dr. Chris Himsel. “Although we will be non-conference competitors in the future, we look forward to continued partnerships with members of Conference Indiana.”

The Sagamore Conference includes returning conference members Danville and Lebanon. In 2024, Harrison and McCutcheon announced plans to join the conference for the 2025-26 academic year. Tri-West High School will compete for one final year as part of the Sagamore Conference before departing for the Hoosier Legends Conference. 

Both Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South have been members of Conference Indiana since 2013. Members of Conference Indiana include Columbus North, Bloomington South and Southport. Bloomington North is departing to join the Mid-State Conference beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

“Our time competing in Conference Indiana has been extremely positive and we’re grateful for the partnership for the last 12 years,” says South High School Athletic Director Ed Jarvis. “We want to thank the other current Conference Indiana schools and wish them the best of luck in the future.”

Adds North High School Athletic Director Kris Painter, “Discussions with our coaches have been  very positive. They’re ready for a new challenge and are anxious to begin preparing their student athletes for our new conference opponents.”

The official move to the Sagamore Conference will begin in the 2026-27 academic year.
