February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and Blue River Career Programs will be spotlighting its programs and a student from each program Monday through Friday in the Shelby County Post during the month of February.
The CTE spotlight today is the Automotive Services program and 2009 graduate Dillon Lochard-Patel (photo).
“BRCP and Mr. Allen guided me as a lost kid and encouraged me to a pathway that put me into my current career,” said Lochard-Patel. “I would say to keep working hard and understand the meaning of grit. This will take you a long way.”
The Automotive Services program at BRCP is based around hands on and theory about working on vehicles. The goal is to make sure to give the students every opportunity to learn new skills with up-to-date equipment and to give them the knowledge they need to succeed in the automotive industry.
Students focus on maintenance, brakes, steering and suspension, basic electrical and engine mechanical and diagnostic procedures.
They also get the chance to earn ASE student accreditation and earn college dual credits while at BRCP.
