February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and Blue River Career Programs will be spotlighting its programs and a student from each program Monday through Friday in the Shelby County Post during the month of February.

The CTE spotlight today is Diesel Services program students Brayden Schultz and Alexandro Figueroa.

Schultz (main photo) is a Shelbyville High School senior in Diesel Technology. He is willing to learn, picks up lessons quickly, willing to help others, goes that extra mile with making sure tools and the work area is cleaned prior to leaving for the day.

Schultz’s desire is to continue his education in Montana to play football and is studying diesel mechanics with the wishes of taking over the family farming operation there.

Figueroa (photo) is a Shelbyville senior in Diesel Technology. He is in his second year in the diesel program and wants to explore the diesel service as a possible career choice.

Figueroa is willing to step in and tackle any challenge there may be in the shop with projects.

In Diesel Service Technology, students strive to learn the fundamentals, principals in the traditional lecture classroom environment, along with the hands-on lab experience of the trade.

The program will touch on brakes, electrical, transmissions, drivelines, steering, suspension, engines, fuel systems and more.
Students have the opportunity to achieve benchmarks and earn four ASE certifications.
