February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and Blue River Career Programs will be spotlighting its programs and a student from each program Monday through Friday in the Shelby County Post during the month of February.
The CTE spotlight today is the Health Sciences CCMA program and student Jayden Richards.
Richards is currently enrolled in Health Science Capstone.
“I chose Blue River Career Programs to follow my dreams to work in the medical field,” said Richards. “My mother is a medical assistant, and she is my inspiration. I currently work as a Certified Nurse Assistant. I’m enrolled in the medical assisting program, and I plan to continue my education in health care after high school.”
Richards enjoy her experiences at BRCP.
“My communication skills are a strong asset I have developed through my clinical experiences at Blue River,” she said. “I’m still learning how to manage multiple tasks at once, but this learning environment allows me to critically think and determine what’s the most to least important tasks.
“I have learned that working with people is more than just taking care of them. I do not stress with residents or patients if they need further explanation of the care I’m providing. I know that this is a family member of someone who needs me to help them, and that’s what I’m here to do.”
The Health Science Capstone offers students an opportunity to earn dual credit courses through Ivy Tech and obtain a certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant. This is a one-year program open to juniors or seniors.
