Writers, readers, and flag aficionados will enjoy events this week at the Shelby County Public Library branches.

Writers’ Group meets early this month because of Memorial Day, while the American flag etiquette class will deliver the finer points of caring for personal and public flags.

American Flag Etiquette will be taught on May 25 at 2 p.m. by Marylen Henry, Assistant Head of the Velma Wortman Morristown Branch, 127 E Main St. Marylen is currently on the Board of Directors of M20CW – Musum of 20th Century Warfare - located inside Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. She has been teaching military history for 20 years.

Writers’ Group, which usually meets the last Monday of the month, has moved its meeting up a week. It will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 20 instead. Any adult or teen writers or would-be writers are encouraged to meet in the Carnegie East Wing’s Room A, 33 W. Broadway St., for the group facilitated by Carolyn Statler of Three Sisters Books & Gifts. Writers talk writing, work with writing prompts, and share their works for feedback or workshopping, if they wish..

Two book clubs meet Tuesday this week – one in Shelbyville and the other in Morristown. The Book Group @ The Bookmark meets at noon at the café, 9 Public Square. The group will discuss “The Life List of Adrian Mandrick” by Chris White. At 6:30 p.m. at the Morristown Branch, Book Club After Dark will meet to discuss “The Charmed Wife” by Olga Grushin. Adults are invited to these book group; there is no membership requirement.

Bubble Art challenges attendees to create art using bubbles and paint. Dress for a mess. All ages can make this craft, so everyone in the family can have fun from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Morristown Branch
