Jeff Air Pilot Services will officially be operational at the Shelbyville Municipal Airport on April 1.
“Anyone that wants to start (flying), just enroll and get going,” said David Jeffries, owner of Jeff Air.
The company has spent the latter part of March relocating inventory from Indy South Greenwood Airport to Shelbyville where it hopes to create a successful hub and training center for pilots.
“Everyone starts with a private pilot’s license,” explained Jeffries.
Anyone interested in starting or continuing flight education can do so through the company.
Jeff Air already has several planes on site in Shelbyville. The goal is to eventually create more hangar space to perform airplane maintenance and create its own facility for the flight school.
“There is a lot of space there (at the Shelbyville airport),” said Jeffries. “There is great potential for that type of facility we need.”
Jeff Air, a family-operated business created by Jeffries’ father, Tom Jeffries, in 2011, also has a second flight school in Anderson, Indiana.
“We have had our hopes on Shelbyville for a long time,” said David. “We thought it would be a good location for a flight school with the ability to expand. After the lease ended with Greenwood, Shelbyville made a lot of sense for the proximity to where we were.”
