Shelbyville street construction hindering daily travel and school traffic has brought plenty of concerns.

The Shelbyville Fire Department posted on social media Tuesday a special way it intends to handle traffic concerns while responding to calls in the neighborhood of the construction. Over the next month, EMS call responses from Station 693 may look a little different in the Berwick and Clearview areas due to construction and school traffic. To provide the fastest and most efficient response crews will have the option to deploy the UTV on a medical call.

The UTV was purchased a couple of years ago to assist in providing EMS coverage for the Blue River Trail and parks.

This week began a conversion of Shelbyville's McKay Street to one-way westbound traffic. The overlay project is scheduled to last through the end of the month.

The Shelbyville Fire Department stated in the post that crews will still provide advanced life support services with the same equipment and same level of care in a more efficient response manner. An ambulance will still be dispatched from headquarters and provide transport.

This change only effects medical calls. Fire and rescue calls will have a fire engine response.
