Shelbyville Parks Department opens outdoor courts for pickleball and basketball

The outdoor pickleball courts are now available at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville.

The Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department is declaring spring is sprung.

The first official day of spring is March 20, but the parks department is taking advantage of the warmer temperatures by opening the pickleball courts at Blue River Memorial Park, the basketball courts at Morrison Park and Kennedy Park, and returning the bicycles to the designated racks for the department’s bicycle sharing program.

The pickleball courts were installed at Blue River Memorial Park, 725 Lee Boulevard, in 2024 and saw steady use.

Outdoor basketball courts are available at Morrison Park, 801 S. West St., and Kennedy Park, 200 Minster Drive, from dawn to dusk.

The bicycle share program allows anyone with a bank card to check out a bicycle for free at one of three stations around the city. The bank card ensures the bicycle will be returned or a fee will be charged.

The bicycle docking stations are located at Blue River Memorial Park, downtown Shelbyville and at the trailhead near the railroad tracks on north State Road 9.

Instructions are located at each bicycle docking station to unlock the bikes. All bikes must be returned to a docking station each day by 10 p.m.
