The Shelbyville Police Department has opened a hiring process that will be extended into the upcoming summer.
This process is for applicants who are not currently certified by the Indiana law Enforcement Training Board as a police officer.
Lt. Mike Turner says they are hoping to collect several applicants who are interested in joining the department.
_x000D_ Play Audio_x000D_The Shelbyville Police Department is currently accepting applications for entry level police officers. Those not immediately extended a conditional offer of employment will be placed on a list to fill future openings.
Among the salary and benefits available with the Shelbyville Police Department:
_x000D_ Starting Probation Officer pay $53,970.07_x000D_ Starting pay after probationary year $56,668.57_x000D_ Take home car with off-duty usage within 50 mile radius of city center. _x000D_ Equipment and uniforms provided_x000D_ $800 yearly clothing allowance _x000D_ 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off._x000D_ Specialty opportunities: SWAT, K9, Negotiators, Field Training Officers, Instructors_x000D_ P.E.R.F. Public Safety Pension Plan_x000D_ Health/Dental and Vision Insurance_x000D_ Paid holidays, personal days, vacation days and benefits_x000D_ 10-year pay matrix_x000D_
Current information represents the 2024 contract. Negotiations currently taking place for 2025 salary structure.

Application and hiring process
Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2. Any late applications will not be accepted.
Applicants will be scheduled for a written test and a physical agility test which will be held on the same date.
Applicants passing the written and agility tests will be scheduled to interview with the Shelbyville Police Department Hiring Board.
Applicants selected will be extended a conditional offer of employment or placed on a list in order by scores.
Applications will be subject to a thorough background investigation. Any applicant who does not meet Shelbyville Police Department standards will be removed from the process.
Appointment is subject to a medical/psychological exam and acceptance by the Indiana Public Safety Retirement Fund (INPRS), Completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Basic Course and a field training program within the first year of employment.
Minimum application requirements for employment
_x000D_ Be a citizen of the United States._x000D_ Be a high school graduate or equivalent._x000D_ Be at least 21 years of age, but not yet 40 years of age at time of appointment for sworn officer positions if not currently enrolled in 1977 Indiana PERF Retirement system. Military Veterans with at least 20 years of service in the Armed Forces may become a member of the 1977 Indiana PERF Retirement system if under 40 years and 6 months of age._x000D_ Possess a valid driver’s license. _x000D_ Have the legal ability to possess a firearm. _x000D_ Not been convicted of a felony._x000D_ Satisfy any and all other requirements imposed by state and federal law._x000D_ Must comply with all Shelbyville Police Department hiring standards, academic standards, and the Indiana Law_x000D_

Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Physical Fitness Standards (Exit Standards):
_x000D_ Vertical Jump - at least 16 inches_x000D_ Sit ups – at least 29 sit-ups in one minute _x000D_ Push-ups - at least 25 push-ups (no time limit) _x000D_ 300-meter run in 71 seconds or less _x000D_ 1.5 mile run in 16 minutes and 28 seconds or less _x000D_
