Alan Wayne Scott, known to many family members as ‘Pete’, passed away November 12, 2023 in Florence, Alabama while on a fishing trip.

He was born February 1, 1955 in Indianapolis, the son of Mary Jo (Peelman) and Donald Wayne Cook. On July 18, 1976, he married his loving wife of 47 years, Karen Beth LeClerc, and she survives.

In addition to Karen, Alan is survived by his son Adam Scott (husband Rob Ertel) of Fishers, daughter Amber Richardson (husband Brian) of Morristown, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Scott of McCordsville, sister Sarah Faye Webb of Wooster, OH, brother Bobby Joe Cook (wife Donna) of Shelbyville, sisters Candy Long of Greenfield, Donna Jo Cook of Shelbyville, and Sue Cook (wife Dawn) of Shelbyville; grandchildren Hannah and Noah Scott, and Andrew and Madison Richardson; sister-in-law Paula Hauke (husband Rick), brother-in-law David (wife Angie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Ray and June LeClerc, and brother-in-law Hal Webb.

Alan graduated from Morristown High School in 1973. His first job of 4 years was at Kopper Kettle Inn in Morristown. He then spent 37 years working as a tool and die maker, retiring from Ford Motor Company in 2010 after 20 years of service.

Alan was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved spending time outdoors. He spent countless hours in his garage/shop working on repairs and projects for himself, family, friends, and anyone who needed his help. He enjoyed traveling with Karen on tropical vacations. He loved spending summer weekends camping on the Ohio River with his family. Everyone at the campground was Alan’s friend.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Friday, November 17, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

There will be a funeral service celebrating Alan’s life at 10 am, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Alan was a best friend to all he knew and will be missed by so many.
