Betty Jean Perry, 79, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at her home.

She was born March 18, 1944, in Oneida, Kentucky, the daughter of Maynard J. and Nell (Hensley) Baker.  On August 23, 1976, she married Daniel Ray Perry, and he survives.

In addition to Daniel, Betty is survived by her son, Mike Gillie and wife, Amy, of McCordsville; daughter, Melisa Alkire and husband, Jeff, of Greenfield; brothers, Jim Baker and wife, Jacque, of Mooresville, and John Baker and wife, Fran, of Colton, California; sisters, Donna Stouder of Plainfield, Jan Thomas and husband, Jerry, of Danville, and Nedra Waggoner and husband, Rob, of Clayton; grandchildren,  Bethany Keller and husband, Timothy, Dylan Alkire, Christopher Gillie and Lydia Gillie; great-grandchildren, Theodore, Victor and Annabelle Keller; and brother-in-law, Jim Kidd of Greenfield; several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Connie Kidd.

In 1962, she graduated from Milton Union High School in West Milton, Ohio. Later receiving her associates degree from Indiana Business College.

She was a member of the Morristown Christian Church for over 20 years.

Betty retired in 1993, from Eli Lilly/Elanco, where she was a secretary and registerer, for 27 years.

She was instrumental in the development of the girls softball program at Carson Park in Valley Mills. Where she coached and served on the board of directors.

Betty enjoyed reading.

Her family was very important to her, and she loved attending her grandchildren’s events.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 pm Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Morristown Christian Church, 209  S. Washington St. in Morristown.

Funeral services follow at 6 pm Wednesday, at the church, with Fred Hickman officiating.

Interment will be at 11:30 am, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
