Ellave Miles, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
She was born April 9, 1933, in Knifley, Kentucky, the daughter of Howard and Ruby (Tedder) Miller. On February 6, 1971, Ellave married Mark J. Miles, and he preceded her in death on December 9, 2010.
Ellave is survived by her son, Larry Lewis and wife, Shari, of Winter Park, Florida; daughters, Karen Lewis Thomas and husband, Mark, of Brownstown, and Beth Lewis Howe and husband, Tom, of Naples, Florida; brother, Robert Miller of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Ashley Ammon and Josh, Alec Lewis and Grace, Katie Buckner and Matt, Brooke Reasoner and Josh, Jill Thomas and Matt, Taylor Herndon and Evan, and Cydney Davenport; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including Barbara Stamper and husband, Ed, of Columbus, Bill McAnelly and wife, Linda, of New York, and Buelah Apple and husband, Dennis, of Olathe, Kansas.
In addition to Mark, Ellave was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Kathleen Hearth and Beatrice Haskins; and brothers, Jack Miller, Raymond Miller, Thomas Miller and Jim Miller.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville.
Ellave was a wonderful seamstress making many of the May Court dresses throughout the years. She also was very talented in altering clothes.
After raising her children and obtaining her degree in Health Care Administration from Ball State University, she found her dream job as administrator at Heritage Manor in Shelbyville for the next 20 years.
Ellave enjoyed traveling, the beach, tending her flower gardens, socializing, dancing and bridge club. She loved silver sneakers and the many wonderful friends that she met there.
She loved to create memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral service will follow at 1 pm, Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
