Lincoln Jones Holder, 95, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
He was born September 1, 1928, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, the son of John Martin Holder and Elsie (Stephens) Holder Downey. On August 19, 1950, he married his loving wife of 73 years, Louise Carol Edmonds, and she survives.
In addition to Louise, Lincoln is survived by his three sons, Christopher Holder and wife, Deanna, and Frederick Holder and wife, Vickie, both of Shelbyville, and Jeffrey Holder and wife, Dianna, of Morristown; sisters, Jenny Fillippinie and Betty Downey, both of Russell Springs, Ann Hill, Helen Napier, Ra Burns, Marcia Bell and Barbara Russell, all of Jamestown, Kentucky; brother, Carl Downey of Russell Springs; grandchildren, Dana Songer and husband, Dan, Sara Latham and husband, John, Shelby Hudson, Sara Augustine, and Tisha Debaun and husband, Scott; great-grandchildren, Corbin Songer, Zella Latham and Dylan Debaun; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lincoln was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leecie Holder and Faye Hoover; and grandson, Jade Christopher Holder.
He attended Bernard Grade School and Russell Springs High School.
Lincoln was a member of the Little Blue River Baptist Church.
He was a welder for Amtrak for 38 years, retiring in 1990.
Lincoln enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was mowing the yard, working on small engines or riding his bicycle.
He loved to spend times with his grandchildren.
A gathering of friends will be from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, November 3, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., in Shelbyville.
The Celebration of Lincoln’s life will follow at 7 pm, Friday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Ken Morgan officiating.
