Richard Dale Hidy Sr., 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Ashford Place Health Campus, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 20, 1932, in Jay County, the son of Cleo and Mary (Houck) Hidy. On February 24, 1952 at Redkey Methodist Church, he married his wife of sixty-three years, Peggy Ann (Zimmerman) Hidy.

Dick is survived by his daughter-in-law, Connie Hidy, of Montpelier; daughter, Sue Ann Dittrich, and husband, Bill, of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Howard Beach, of Inglis, Florida; son, Alan Hidy of Shelbyville; brother, Dan Hidy and wife, Ruby, of Bluffton; sisters-in-law, Zola Hidy of Portland and Betty McKee of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Charles R. Hidy and wife, Cindy, of Hartford City, Janel Greene and husband, Blake, of Doniphan, Missouri, Jon Hidy and wife, Lexi, of Muncie, Sara Hidy of Indianapolis, Jennifer Callahan and husband, Corey, of Greenfield, and Nathan Hidy of Seattle, Washington; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ethan, Raelyn and soon to arrive, Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; son, Richard D. Hidy Jr.; daughter, Mona Beach; and brother, Tom Hidy.

Dick graduated from Pennville High School in 1950, and Bulter University in 1953.

After graduation, he joined the Air Force and became a fighter pilot. He then transitioned to the Indiana Air National Guard, based in Fort Wayne.

In 1968, he retired from the National Guard, as a Major. He then took a position as Production Manager at IPC/Freudenburg in Shelbyville.  He held multiple executive positions at Freudenburg until his retirement in 1993.

He was also a board member of several other businesses.

Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at the Elks Club, as well as the many golf outings and trips with his friends.  He continued to enjoy college sports.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church.

A gathering of friends will be from 11:30 am to 1 pm, Friday, November 17, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St. in Shelbyville.

A memorial service will be at 1 pm, Friday, November 17, 2023 at the church.

Private graveside services will be held at IOOF Twin Hills Cemetery in Pennville.

Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
