Warren Eugene “Brownie” Browning, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Major Health Partners in Shelbyville.

He was born November 21, 1930, in Fountaintown, Shelby County, Indiana, the son of Roy V. and Lellia A. (Umbarger) Browning.  On August 4, 1951, he married Norma R. Beyer, and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2022.

Brownie is survived by his sons, Ronald D. (Annette Rayburn) Browning, and Norman E. (Amy) Browning; brother, Lester Browning; grandchildren, Dayn (Brooke) Browning, Beth Browning, Beau (Mary) Browning, Baxton (Kelly Bovell) Browning and Casen Browning; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Drew, Kathryn, Michaela, Capri, Sophia and Elora; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to Norma, Brownie was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Carol D. (Wamsley) Browning; brother, Lewis Browning; and sisters, Ethel Hilt and Sara Francis Phipps.

Brownie graduated in 1949 from Shelbyville High School.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Brownie was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He formerly worked for Runnebohm Construction and J.O. Parrish Lumber.

Brownie was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Aerie Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was also a member of the American Legion and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

He enjoyed playing cards at the America Legion and the Knights of Columbus.  Brownie also enjoyed watching auto racing and golf on television, as well as rooting on his beloved Indiana Hoosiers.

The Rosary will be recited at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.  A gathering of friends and family will be from 2 to 3 pm, with the funeral service following at 3 pm.

Inurnment will be at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville with military rites conducted by the local military committee. .
