Wayne Edward Yarling, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
He was born July 26, 1930, in Shelbyville, the son of Stanley and Delpha (Drake) Yarling. On September 27, 1953, he married his wife of 70 years, Mary Frances Meal, and she survives.
In addition to Mary, Wayne is survived by his sons, Rick Yarling and wife, Julie, of Shelbyville, and Stan Yarling and wife, Andrea, of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Erin Yarling and wife, Mia, of Champaign, Illinois, Erika Monroe and husband, Jordan, of Shelbyville, Taylor Yarling of Shelbyville, and Dakota Yarling and wife, Christina, of Greensburg; and great-grandchildren, Madison, J.J., and Breck Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marjorie Waltz.
Wayne was the sole survivor of his 1948 graduating class at Mount Auburn High School.
Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.
He was a lifelong farmer, farming the same land his entire life.
Wayne enjoyed hanging out at JR Scott’s station and ADA Feed and Grain at Fenns. He and Mary enjoyed going on motorcycle rides all over the country.
Graveside services will be at 3 pm Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 South Harrison Street in Shelbyville.
