The defending Shelbyville Sectional champions want one more crack this season at Triton Central. That may happen Friday in the boys tennis sectional championship match of the 2024 sectional played at Shelbyville High School.
The IHSAA announced the sectional pairings for the 58th Annual IHSAA Boys Tennis State Tournament. The team tournament begins today for many sectionals and runs through Saturday.
The 64 team sectional winners advance to regional play on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 at 16 sites. Regional champions will play semistate matches on Oct. 12 at Center Grove, Culver Academies, Homestead and Jasper.
The eight-team state finals are Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 at Indianapolis North Central High School.
The Shelbyville Sectional starts Wednesday with one quarterfinal match between Southwestern and the host Golden Bears. The two programs have not played each other this season.
The winner advances to Thursday’s semifinal round to face Triton Central.
The other semifinal match Thursday pits Waldron against Morristown.
The sectional championship is Friday with the winner advancing to the Center Grove Regional.
Triton Central is 17-2 this season with its only losses to Greenfield-Central and New Palestine. The Tigers defeated Waldron, 4-1, in the semifinal round of the Shelby County Tournament on Sept. 14, then followed that with a 3-2 win two days later in a regular-season contest.
Waldron (12-4) is the only other team in the Shelbyville Sectional with a winning record.
