
University of Indianapolis freshman pitcher Cheyenne Eads was instrumental in a pair of wins Saturday in Missouri.
The Shelbyville graduate (photo) pitched all 11 innings in a 3-2 win at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Missouri. She allowed just seven hits while striking out nine.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Eads returned to the pitcher’s circle to secure the final two outs and her first collegiate save in a 5-3, 8-inning win.
The Greyhounds went 4-0 in Missouri, sweeping a doubleheader at Missouri S&T Friday. Eads was the winning pitcher in game one. She allowed four hits and struck out two in a 3-1 victory.
Indianapolis won game two, 6-3.
The Greyhounds have won seven straight and are 23-13 this season.
Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.
Kylee Edwards
The Shelbyville graduate singled and scored a run Friday in Mississippi’s 4-3 win over top-ranked Texas.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Edwards singled and walked twice in a 7-3 loss to the Longhorns.
The three-game series concluded Sunday with Texas prevailing 7-2. Edwards again reached base twice and extended her streak of reaching base to 11 straight games.
Mississippi State is 29-8 this season and 6-3 in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) standings.
Karissa Hamilton
The Shelbyville graduate reached base in two of the three games for Kentucky at Arkansas. She had a walk in Friday’s 5-3 loss to the Razorbacks.
On Saturday, Hamilton delivered a run-scoring single in Kentucky’s 10-2 loss. Arkansas finished off the series sweep Sunday with a 2-1 victory.
Kentucky is 21-15 (5-7 SEC).
Abby Eberhardt and Addysyn Wettrick
Manchester softball won six of eight games in Florida at The Spring Games in Orlando – and produced victories in its final five games to improve to 8-4.
Eberhardt, a Triton Central graduate, had two hits and a run batted in on March 24 in Manchester’s 9-1 win over Colby College. Wettrick, a Shelbyville graduate, scored a run as a pinch-runner in the contest.
The highlight win for Manchester came later that day when Eberhardt delivered a walk off sacrifice fly to net the Spartans a 2-1 win over No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
On March 25, Manchester defeated Oberlin College, 8-3, and Lawrence University, 8-1. Eberhardt had two hits and Wettrick scored two runs.
Erica Henry
The Shelbyville graduate was the tough-luck losing pitcher on March 25 in IU Columbus’ 3-1 loss to Oakland City. She allowed just one hit and struck out two in six innings of work.
Henry earned the win Saturday in IU Columbus’ 9-4 win over Shawnee State University. She allowed eight hits and struck out three in a complete-game performance.
The Crimson Pride are 8-18 this season.
Katie Mathies
The Shelbyville graduate had three hits and three walks for DePauw, who finished 0-4 at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament in Bloomington, Illinois.
Mathies had a single and two walks Saturday in a 9-7 loss to Lake Forest. She had a single, a walk and a stolen base in a 6-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan in the Tigers’ second game Saturday.
On Sunday, Wartburg swept a doubleheader with DePauw, 4-3 and 6-4. Mathies had a single and a walk in the first game and drew a pinch-hit walk in the second game.
DePauw is 8-10 this season.
Charlie Rife
The Shelbyville graduate had a single, a walk and scored a run Friday for Bellarmine in a 13-3 loss in game one of a doubleheader against Austin Peay State University. Bellarmine lost game two, 11-1.
On Saturday, Rife had a triple and a walk and scored a run in a 12-6 loss.
The Knights are 6-21 this season.
Madalyn Hudnall
The Waldron graduate finished runner-up in the women’s hammer throw for Mount St. Joseph Saturday at the Landon Bond Classic at Berea College.
Hudnall delivered a personal-best throw of 41.42 meters.
Kilikina Schultz
The Shelbyville graduate finished third in the 100 hurdles (18.12 seconds) and fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:17.58) for Muskingum College at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational in New Concord, Ohio.
Hanover Invitational
Four Shelby County graduates competed at Hanover Saturday.
Shelbyville graduate Ethan Lambert placed 18th in the men’s hammer throw (120-10), 10th in the discus (126-2) and 11th in the shot put (41-5.75) for the University of Indianapolis.
Shelbyville graduate Connor Duncan finished 25th in the hammer throw (105-10) for Franklin College.
Triton Central graduate Brayden Wilkins, running for Franklin College, finished runner-up in the 100 (11.25) and sixth in the 200 (22.65).
Shelbyville graduate Elijah von Werder, also running for Franklin, placed eighth in the 800 in 2:08.9.
