Collegiate Update: Eads secures first hit, first win at University of Indianapolis

Cheyenne Eads’ first weekend of college softball was a busy one.

The Shelbyville graduate was in the starting lineup for all four of the University of Indianapolis’ games at the Music City Invitational in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Eads went 0-for-2 with a walk in her collegiate debut in a 3-1 loss to Ashland. She was the starting pitcher in the second game Friday for the Greyhounds and took the loss after allowing six hits and three walks while striking out eight in a 4-2 loss to Cedarville. She also had her first hit, a double, and scored a run.

On Saturday, Eads was back in the circle starting for Indianapolis against Ohio Dominican and earned her first win, 12-4, working 3.1 innings, allowing five hits, six walks and four runs (two earned) while striking out four. She also had two hits and a walk, scored two runs and had two runs batted in.

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 3, closed out the event Saturday with an 8-7, 10-inning loss to No. 17 Trevecca Nazarene. Eads went 1-for-5 at the plate and pitched 5.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Olivia Faust

The Triton Central graduate had eight points, two rebounds, three assists and two blocks Wednesday in Marian’s 75-47 win at Spring Arbor University.

On Saturday, she finished with 12 points, three rebounds and one steal in a 92-63 win at Taylor University.

The Knights improved to 17-5 (10-2 Crossroads League).

Lizzie Graham

The Triton Central graduate had two points and one rebound Saturday for IU South Bend in a 65-45 loss at Governor’s State University.

Triton Central graduate Tenleigh Phelps, IU South Bend’s leading scorer, did not play in the game.

The Titans are 15-6 overall and 8-6 in conference games.

Maya Chandler

The Triton Central graduate finished with 17 points, two rebounds and one steal Saturday to help Miami (Ohio) snap a two-game losing streak with a 72-34 win over Ohio University.

On Wednesday, Chandler had nine points, one rebound, one assist and three steals in Miami’s 64-59 loss at Toledo.

The Redhawks are 12-8 (5-5 Mid-American Conference).

Rylie Stephens

The Triton Central graduate had 16 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal Saturday for West Florida in a 75-69 loss to Valdosta State.

On Jan. 27, the Argos defeated West Alabama, 68-58. Stephens scored 14 points and had two rebounds and one steal.

West Florida is 14-6 overall and 10-4 against conference opponents.

Bella Larrison

The Waldron graduate finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and one steal Wednesday in Anderson’s 87-73 win over Earlham.

On Saturday, Larrison had 10 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in a 57-39 loss to Transylvania.

The Ravens are 10-9 (7-6 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Kyle Crim

The Morristown graduate had two points and one rebound for Hanover Saturday in a 97-73 win over Bluffton University.

The Panthers improved to 12-8 (8-5 HCAC).

Drake Moore

The Morristown graduate finished with six points, one rebound and three assists Saturday for IU Kokomo in an 85-73 victory over Shawnee State University.

On Thursday, IU Kokomo lost to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 82-76. Moore had six points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The Cougars are 14-8 (5-5 River States Conference).

Will Rife

The Shelbyville graduate placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (52.67 seconds) for Wabash College Saturday in a dual swim meet against IU Indianapolis.

Rife also was part of a Wabash 400 medley relay team that finished fifth in 3:31.31.

Hadyn Ball

The Triton Central graduate finished fifth at 197 pounds for Wabash College Saturday at the Wabash College Open.

Ball lost his opening match to Ohio Wesleyan’s Geoffry Kaminsky, 9-4. He returned to the mat and defeated Trine’s Xander LaChance by pinfall to advance to the fifth-place match.

Ball pinned Wabash teammate Trescott Duffy in 29 seconds to finish 2-1 in the event.

Kilikina Schultz

The Shelbyville graduate finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.7 seconds) and 17th in the 60 meters (8.97) for Muskingum Saturday at Muskie Meet No. 3 in New Concord, Ohio.

Zaleeya Martin

The Shelbyville graduate won the 60 meters (7.84) and placed second in the 200 (27.15) Friday for the University of Indianapolis at the Wildcat Open at Troyer Fieldhouse at Indiana Wesleyan.

Ethan Lambert

The Shelbyville graduate also competed for Indianapolis at the Wildcat Open in Marion.

Lambert finished 14th in the shot put (12.45 meters) and 14th in the weight throw (13.38).

Bailey Stamper

The Triton Central graduate finished 10th in the shot put (9.80 meters) and 12th in the women’s weight throw (10.31) Friday for Franklin College at the Friday Night Spikes indoor track and field meet in Terre Haute.

Connor Duncan

The Shelbyville graduate placed 22nd in the shot put (9.81) and 22nd in the weight throw (9.19) Friday for Franklin College in Terre Haute.

Elijah von Werder

The Shelbyville graduate was part of Franklin College’s 11th-place finish in the 4X400 relay team Friday in Terre Haute.

He also placed 31st in the 800 (2:14.57).
