Collegiate Update: Eads sets UIndy record for quickest first career no-hitter

Cheyenne Eads’ first no-hitter at the University of Indianapolis was a program record.

In just her fourth collegiate start, Eads, a Shelbyville graduate, tossed a five-inning no-hitter Thursday against Wheeling in Triadelphia, West Virginia. She walked one and hit another while striking out 12 in a 14-0 victory for the Greyhounds. Eads became the third Greyhound freshman to throw a no-hitter, and the first since 2001.

Eads also had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.

In the second game Thursday of a doubleheader against Wheeling, Eads had two hits and drove in three runs in an 11-2 victory.

Indianapolis returned Friday for a doubleheader against West Liberty. In the first game, Eads twirled a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Greyhounds to a 6-0 win. She struck out 11 to improve to 2-2 this season.

Eads delivered a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to seal a 2-0 victory in game two against West Liberty.

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 16 nationally, improved to 5-3.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Olivia Faust

The Triton Central graduate had three points, two rebounds and four assists Saturday for No. 12 Marian in a 73-72 overtime loss at No. 9 St. Francis (Ind.).

The Knights’ 20th win of the season came Wednesday in a 64-37 win over Bethel. Faust finished with 10 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Marian is 20-6 (13-3 Crossroads League).

Kyle Crim

The Morristown graduate had two points and three assists Wednesday for Hanover in an 84-81 loss to Anderson.

On Saturday, Crim was credited with two assists in a 61-57 loss to Franklin College.

The Panthers are 14-10 (10-7 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Drake Moore

The Morristown graduate had nine points and two rebounds Saturday in IU Kokomo’s 96-63 win over Brescia University.

Moore finished with four points, one rebound, four assists and one steal Tuesday in an 83-55 win at Oakland University.

The Cougars are 18-8 overall and 9-5 against River States Conference opponents.

Tenleigh Phelps and Lizzie Graham

Phelps, a Triton Central graduate, had six points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal for IU South Bend Thursday in a 74-62 loss to Saint Xavier University (Ill.).

On Saturday, the Titans produced a 65-57 win over Viterbo University (Wis.). Phelps finished with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Graham, a Triton Central graduate, was credited with one rebound for IU South Bend in limited minutes.

The Titans are 18-7 (11-7 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Bella Larrison

The Waldron graduate finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and one block Wednesday in Anderson’s 92-77 loss to Hanover.

Larrison had six points, four rebounds and one assist Saturday in a 54-52 loss at Berea.

The Ravens are 11-11 (8-8 HCAC).

Rylie Stephens

The Triton Central graduate collected six points and three rebounds Thursday in West Florida’s 51-33 win over Mississippi College.

On Saturday, the Argos defeated Delta State, 69-56. Stephens finished with six points, four rebounds and one assist.

West Florida improved to 16-8 (12-6 Gulf South Conference).

Maya Chandler

The Triton Central graduate scored a team-high 18 points and added two rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals to her stat line in Miami’s 64-62 win at Kent State.

The Redhawks have won four straight to improve to 15-8 (7-5 Mid-American Conference).

Hadyn Ball

The Triton Central graduate finished 2-3 to secure eighth place in the 197-pound weight class for Wabash in the Mid-States Invitational at Manchester University.

After losing his opening match, Ball scored consecutive pinfall victories over Adrian’s Preston Calvery and Baldwin Wallace’s Dominic Pagan.

Ball was defeated in the consolation bracket semifinal round then lost the seventh-place match to Heidelberg’s Paul Wilson, 2-1.

Madalyn Hudnall

The Waldron graduate placed third for Mount St. Joseph Saturday in the shot put (38 feet, 11.5 inches) and second in the weight throw (41-9.75) at the MSJ February Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Bailey Stamper

The Triton Central graduate finished 11th in the shot put (8.73 meters) and 10th in the weight throw (9.73 meters) for Franklin College Saturday at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.

Elijah von Werder

The Shelbyville graduate finished 26th in the 800 meters (2:11.51) for Franklin College at the DePauw Invitational.

Connor Duncan

The Shelbyville graduate placed 25th in the shot put (10.34 meters) and 28th in the weight throw (10.20 meters) for Franklin at DePauw Saturday.

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate placed 22nd in the 200 meters (22.88) for Franklin at DePauw.

Erica Henry

The Shelbyville graduate took the loss Saturday in IU Columbus’ 4-3 loss at Montreat College in Marion, North Carolina.

Henry pitched six innings and allowed two hits and five walks. Of the four runs attributed to Henry, only three were earned.

Montreat swept doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday from IU Columbus (0-4). Henry pitched in the season opener, an 11-3 loss, and allowed seven hits and six runs in 4.1 innings.

Charlie Rife

The Shelbyville graduate delivered a two-run double Friday in Bellarmine baseball’s season-opening 23-6 loss at Troy.

Troy dealt Bellarmine identical 7-3 losses Saturday and Sunday to sweep the three-game series with the Knights.

Karissa Hamilton

The Shelbyville graduate reached base in each of Kentucky’s first four games at the Clearwater Invitational in Florida.

Hamilton had walks against Wichita State, Virginia, Clemson and No. 9 Oklahoma State. The Wildcats split those first four games – defeating Wichita State (2-0) and Clemson (7-6) and losing to Virginia (4-1) and Oklahoma State (6-3).

Kentucky closed out the invitational Saturday with a 3-1 loss to No. 4 UCLA.

The Wildcats are 6-4.

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had six RBI for No. 19 Mississippi State in the Alex Wilcox Memorial, hosted by the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State defeated Southern Illinois, 10-3, on Thursday. Edwards had a double, a stolen base and three RBI.

Edwards had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in a 14-5 win over North Texas.

On Friday, the Bulldogs defeated Bradley 5-3. Edwards had a walk and a stolen base. Mississippi State defeated Bradley again Saturday, 12-3. Edwards had two hits, scored a run and two RBI.

Mississippi State closed out the event with an 11-3 win over Georgia Tech Sunday.

The Bulldogs are 9-1.
