Collegiate Update: Gearlds secures top-20 finish at Delaware Shootout

Oliver Gearlds tied for 17th overall Friday for Indiana University Kokomo at the Delaware Shootout at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Indiana.

The Triton Central graduate shot rounds of 79 and 75 for a two-round score of 154 that left him 17th in the field.

IU Kokomo placed seventh in the event hosted by IU East.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Asher Caldwell

The Morristown graduate finished tied for ninth place Sunday after the final round of the Region V Preview at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills, Ohio.

Playing for Trine University, Caldwell carded a 77 on Saturday in round one then posted an even-par 72 on Sunday for a two-day total of 149.

Michael Fox

The Shelbyville graduate finished 89th Saturday in the Gil Dodds Invitational in Warrenville, Illinois.

Fox, representing Manchester University, completed the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 37 seconds. 

Kegan Schalk

The Triton Central graduate had one punt for 35 yards for Trine’s football team Saturday in a 52-20 win at Bluffton University.

Trine improved to 2-1 this season.

Hayden Kermode and Brayden Wilkins

Kermode, a Triton Central graduate, was credited with three tackles Saturday for Franklin College in a 42-21 loss to Adrian College.

Wilkins, also a TC graduate, racked up 94 yards on three kickoff returns, with a long of 44 yards, and had his first collegiate reception for three yards. 

Lucas Kleeman

The Triton Central graduate had three tackles and a fumble recovery Saturday for Anderson University in a 66-12 loss to Calvin University.

Anderson is 1-2 this season.

Ella Rice

The Southwestern graduate was credited with an assist Friday for Anderson’s volleyball team in a 25-11, 25-9, 25-18 win over Knox at the Millikin Invitational in Decatur, Illinois.

Anderson improved to 7-2.

Julia Sanders

The Triton Central graduate had six digs Friday in IU Kokomo’s 25-22, 25-12, 25-21 win at IU East. 

On Sept. 17, Sanders finished with two assists, one service ace and six digs in a 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

IU Kokomo is 13-4.

Brooklyn Schiffli

The Triton Central graduate had one kill, two assists and 20 digs Saturday for Jacksonville State in a 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 loss to Florida A&M in the finale of the Ragin’ Cajuns Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Louisiana defeated Jacksonville State Thursday, 24-26, 29-27, 25-20, 10-25, 15-3. Schiffli had four assists and 21 digs.

On Friday, Southeastern Louisiana defeated the Gamecocks, 25-14, 25-13, 25-22. Schiffli finished with two assists, one ace and 11 digs.

Maggie Schweitzer

Hanover volleyball suffered its first loss of the season Saturday to No. 14 Millikin, 25-17, 25-15, 25-11. Schweitzer, a Triton Central graduate, had seven assists, one ace and five digs.

Earlier Saturday, Hanover defeated Illinois College, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16. Schweitzer collected 16 assists, three aces and five digs.

The Panthers are 13-1 this season.
