Collegiate Update: Hudnall delivers pair of personal-best throws for Mount St. Joseph at Blizzard Buster

The first outdoor track and field meet of the season was a cold but successful one for Waldron graduate Madalyn Hudnall.

Competing for Mount St. Joseph Friday at the Blizzard Buster at the University of Miami (Ohio), Hudnall had a pair of top-6 finishes against competition from various collegiate levels, including Division I.

Hudnall placed sixth in the shot put with a new school record distance of 12.03 meters. She also finished fifth in the javelin (34.85 meters) and 15th in the hammer throw with a new personal-best throw of 39.01 meters.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Maya Chandler

The Triton Central graduate’s basketball career came to an end Sunday in Miami’s 73-66 loss to Duquesne in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Chandler scored a team-high 16 points and had one rebound, two assists and four steals for the Redhawks, who closed out their season with a 19-12 record.

Olivia Faust

Marian University’s postseason run ended in the Quarterfinal Round of the NAIA Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Knights opened play at the tournament’s final site Thursday with a 77-72 win over the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Faust, a Triton Central graduate, finished with four points, two rebounds, one block and two steals.

Marian advanced to face the defending national champions and top seed Dordt University (Iowa) Saturday and lost 82-61. Faust had three points, two rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Marian finished the season 27-8.

Cheyenne Eads

The Shelbyville graduate had six hits and earned a pair of wins for the University of Indianapolis in four games over the weekend.

On Friday, Eads has three hits and scored three runs in the Greyhounds’ 13-5 win over Southwest Baptist. She also collected the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing eight hits and striking out six. Indianapolis lost game two of the doubleheader, 9-0.

Eads took the loss Saturday in a 6-2 loss to Drury. She allowed eight hits and allowed six runs (three earned) and struck out eight.

In game two, Eads pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning then reached base in the bottom half of the inning and eventually scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly for a 9-8 victory. Eads had two strikeouts in her inning of work to keep her in the top 10 nationally for strikeouts.

The Greyhounds are 17-13 this season.

Charlie Rife

The Shelbyville graduate blasted his third home run of the season Friday in Bellarmine’s 10-7 loss at Lipscomb University.

Ride had a walk and scored a run Saturday in a 7-2 loss to Lipscomb.

The Knights are 6-17 this season.

Karissa Hamilton

The Shelbyville graduate had three hits and scored three runs in Kentucky’s series win over No. 20 Ole Miss.

On Friday, Hamilton was hit-by-a-pitch and scored a run in the Wildcats’ 9-6, 9-inning win. She had two hits and scored a run Saturday in a 6-4 loss.

In the series finale Sunday, Hamilton had a double and scored a run in a 4-2 victory that improved Kentucky to 21-11.

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had a double and drove in two runs Wednesday in Mississippi State’s 8-4 win at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

On Friday at Northwestern, Edwards belted the second grand slam of her career in a 14-0 win over the Wildcats in game one of a three-game series.

Edwards had a single, two walks and two RBI Saturday in a 12-2 series-clinching win that improved the Bulldogs to 27-6.

Erica Henry

The Shelbyville graduate took the loss on March 18 for IU Columbus against St. Mary-of-the-Woods. Henry went the distance and allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out five.

On Saturday, Henry again took the loss to Calumet College of St. Joseph, 15-11. She worked five innings, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs.

IU Columbus is 7-13 this season.

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate finished third in the 100 meters for Franklin College Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational.

Wilkins crossed the finish line in 10.94 seconds.

Elijah von Werder

The Shelbyville graduate placed 45th for Franklin College in the 1,500 (4:40.86) at Rose-Hulman Saturday.

Connor Duncan

The Shelbyville graduate placed 35th in the discus (26.03 meters) and 24th in the hammer throw (30.44 meters) for Franklin College Saturday at Rose-Hulman.
