Jacksonville State volleyball opened the season with three home victories in the Gamecock Classic.
On Friday in Jacksonville, Alabama, the Gamecocks opened the event with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Brooklyn Schiffli (main photo), a Triton Central graduate, had one kill, one assist and 12 digs in the victory.
Jacksonville State then defeated New Orleans Friday, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16. Schiffli had four assists and five digs.
On Saturday, the Gamecocks closed the event with a 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18 win over the University of West Georgia. Schiffli, her team’s libero, finished with six assists and a team-best 15 digs.

Maggie Schweitzer
The Triton Central graduate led Hanover volleyball to three wins in the Maryville Invitational in Maryville, Tennessee.
On Friday, the Panthers opened their season with a 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 win over Randolph-Macon College. Schweitzer (photo) finished with one service ace, 18 assists and 14 digs.
In a second match Friday, Hanover defeated Maryville College, 25-16, 16-25, 26-24, 25-11. Schweitzer collected two kills, 17 assists, four aces and nine digs.
On Saturday, Hanover defeated Brevard College, 25-11, 25-10, 25-12, Schweitzer, the Panthers’ setter, had 17 assists, four aces and 12 digs.
Julia Sanders
Indiana University Kokomo split four matches at the College of Saint Mary Labor Day Classic in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Cougars started the event Friday with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 loss to The Master’s University. Sanders (photo), a Triton Central graduate, had one assist, two aces and four digs.
IU Kokomo rebounded Friday to defeat No. 23 University of Providence, 27-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22. Sanders finished with three assists and eight digs.
The Cougars went five sets with No. 2 Northwestern College (Iowa) on Saturday before falling, 25-23, 29-27, 17-25, 23-25, 15-10. Sanders had nine digs and one assist.
IU Kokomo finished with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-19 victory over Peru State College. Sanders had six digs and one ace.
The Cougars are 8-4 this season.
Oliver Gearlds
The Triton Central graduate carded rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7) for IU Kokomo men’s golf in the season opening IU East Fall Invite played at Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond, Indiana.
Gearlds (photo) shot 76 Friday while IU Kokomo finished at 305. Gearlds’ 79 came on day two while the Cougars improved to 295 for a two-. day score of 600, which left them in sixth place in the team standings.
Sophie Parker, Rebecca Valdez and Cyanne St. Bernard
IU Columbus women’s soccer defeated Freed-Hardeman University, 3-2, Sunday in Henderson, Tennessee.
Sophie Parker (photo), a Shelbyville graduate, scored her first goal of the season less than 20 minutes into the contest. Parker also was credited with an assist on Rachel Lamping’s late first-half goal.
Parker played all 90 minutes for IU Columbus as did Valdez and St. Bernard – both Shelbyville graduates.
