Collegiate Update: Schiffli reaches milestone for Jacksonville State volleyball program

Triton Central graduate Brooklyn Schiffli became the 14th player in Jacksonville State volleyball history to reach 1,000 career digs.

The senior libero entered Friday’s Conference USA match at Liberty University needing 20 digs to secure the milestone mark. She finished with 12 digs and four assists in a 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 loss in Lynchburg, Virginia.

On Saturday, she collected 19 digs and three assists but Jacksonville State still lost at Liberty 25-21, 12-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-12 to drop to 7-10 (0-4 Conference USA) this season.

Schiffli now has 1,011career digs.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Maggie Schweitzer

The Triton Central graduate had 14 assists and three digs Friday in Hanover volleyball’s 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 loss at Manchester University.

The Panthers dropped to 15-4 (0-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Julia Sanders

The Triton Central graduate had four digs and one assist Saturday to help No. 11-ranked IU Kokomo volleyball win at Oakland City, 25-20, 25-16, 25-15.

On Friday, IU Kokomo defeated Brescia University (Kentucky), 25-13, 25-19, 25-13. Sanders finished with one kill, one assist, one service ace and seven digs.

The Cougars started the week with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 win over IU Columbus. Sanders had one kill, one ace and three digs.

IU Kokomo is 18-4 (6-0 River States Conference) this season.

Oliver Gearlds

The Triton Central graduate finished eighth in the River States Conference Fall Preview tournament held at Glade Springs Golf Course in Daniels, West Virginia.

Representing IU Kokomo, Gearlds posted a 1-over par round of 73 on Sept. 30 and followed that on Oct. 1 with a 2-over par round of 74 to finish at 147.

IU Kokomo finished eighth in the event.

Tristin Maloney, Elijah von Werder

The Shelbyville graduates competed for Franklin College Friday night at the NCAA DIII Pre-Nationals at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

Running in the Open 8K race, von Werder finished 260th in 35:18 while Maloney was 269th in 39:02.

Michael Fox

The Shelbyville graduate also ran at the DIII Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute for Manchester University.

Fox completed the 8K course in 27:45 to finish in 288th place in the collegiate race.

Cyanne St. Bernard

The Shelbyville graduate scored two goals for IU Columbus women’s soccer Saturday in an 8-2 loss to Midway University.

St. Bernard scored the first goal of the match at the 2:33 mark to give IU Columbus a quick 1-0 lead.

She scored her second goal on a penalty kick at 29:01 of the first half which cut Midway’s lead to 3-2.

St. Bernard finished the match with five shots on goal for IU Columbus (2-6-1).
