The Hoosier Legends Conference is now complete.

On Tuesday, the Greenwood Community School Corporation Board accepted an offer to join the newly-formed Hoosier Legends Conference. No timeline for joining the HLC was announced.

”We are proud to announce Greenwood has accepted an invitation to join the Hoosier Legends Conference. This has been a thoughtful decision with input from our community, parents, coaches & administrators after a longtime association with the Mid-State Conference,” stated Greenwood Superintendent Dr. Terry Terhune on his “X” account.

On Oct. 16, Shelbyville High School announced its acceptance of an offer to become the seventh member of the HLC. The athletic program does not expect to begin competition until at least the 2026-27 school year.

The HLC now consists of eight public schools with Class 2A and Class 3A designations by the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

Four schools — Triton Central, Beech Grove, Monrovia and Speedway — are ending their affiliation with the Indiana Crossroads Conference at the conclusion of this school year. The quartet will be joined by Tri-West (currently a member of the Sagamore Conference) and Indian Creek (Western Indiana Conference) in the fall of 2025 to begin competition.

Shelbyville and Greenwood are expected to join in the fall of 2026 unless arrangements can be made with the Hoosier Heritage Conference (Shelbyville) and the Mid-State Conference (Greenwood) to release those schools from existing contracts.
