Shelbyville and Triton Central will open the 2024 Indiana High School Athletic Association girls sectional tournament Wednesday at Shelbyville High School.
On Monday, the IHSAA announced the sectional pairings for the 49th Annual Girls Tennis State Tournament. A total of 311 schools will vie for the state championship.
Sectional tournaments begin today at some sites and will be completed by Saturday. The 64 team sectional winners will advance to regional play May 21-22 at 16 sites.
Shelbyville is again the sectional host for all the Shelby County girls tennis programs. The Golden Bears open the tournament Wednesday against Triton Central, a team they defeated 3-2 on April 13.
The winner of the Shelbyville-Triton Central match moves on to Thursday’s semifinal round to face Morristown. In the other semifinal Thursday, Waldron takes on Southwestern.
The sectional championship match is Friday at Shelbyville High School.
Waldron is 6-0 this season against the sectional field including two wins over Triton Central and a win at Shelbyville.
The Shelbyville Sectional champion will advance to the Center Grove Regional to face the Perry Meridian Sectional champion. The four-team Perry Meridian Sectional features semifinal matches of the host Falcons against Southport and Decatur Central battling Roncalli.
In the other semifinal of the Center Grove Regional, the sectional champions from the Connersville Sectional and the Center Grove Sectional square off.
The four-team Connersville Sectional has semifinal matches of Union County vs. Rushville and Connersville vs. Franklin County.
The six-team Center Grove Sectional has two top-20 ranked programs and they meet in the first match. Franklin, ranked No. 6, takes on No. 14 Center Grove with the winner advancing to face Indian Creek.
In the other quarterfinal match, Greenwood Christian takes on Greenwood with the winner advancing to face Whiteland in the semifinals.
