
A 17-win Shelbyville squad will chase its first sectional title in 24 years on its home floor.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the sectional pairings Sunday night for the 115th Annual Boys Basketball State Tournament.
Sectional tournaments in four classes begin March 4 and crown champions four days later.
Regional championship games are March 15. Semistate semifinal and championship games are March 22 at eight sites around the state.
Four state champions will be determined on March 29 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Class 3A, Sectional 28
William L. Garrett Gymnasium is the host site for a 7-team sectional that includes five programs with at least 10 wins – and two state-ranked teams in New Palestine and the host Golden Bears.
The only quarterfinal game on March 4 is No. 2 New Palestine (20-3) taking on Rushville (4-17). The winner returns for a semifinal meeting with Beech Grove (8-14).
Shelbyville (17-5), ranked No. 13, debuts on March 5 in the opener against Indianapolis Roncalli (13-7).
The second quarterfinal March 5 is Indian Creek (10-10) battling Greenwood (12-10).
Shelbyville is 2-2 against Sectional 28 opponents this season – defeating Rushville and Beech Grove while losing to Greenwood and New Palestine.
Class 2A, Sectional 43
Four teams have double-digit wins coming into the Christel House Sectional, including the host Eagles.
In the opening quarterfinal game on March 4, Triton Central (12-9) starts the tournament against Heritage Christian (7-13), a team it defeated 54-40 on Jan. 17. The winner returns to the semifinal round to face Christel House (14-9, 4-1 against sectional opponents), who defeated Triton Central 59-49 on Dec. 20.
In the March 5 quarterfinal games, KIPP Indy Legacy (14-7) makes its boys basketball state tournament debut against Irvington Prep (8-17) while Eastern Hancock (13-7) takes on Indianapolis Scecina (7-14).
Class A, Sectional 59
Six of the eight teams at the Edinburgh Sectional have won between nine and 13 games this season. Those same six teams have won at least three games against teams in the Sectional 59 field.
In quarterfinal games on March 4, Waldron (11-10) opens the sectional against Southwestern (9-11). The Spartans have lost twice to Waldron this season.
The second quarterfinal on March 4 pits North Decatur (11-12) against Knightstown (2-17).
The second round of quarterfinal contests are March 5. The first game is Tri (13-8) against Edinburgh (9-12) followed by South Decatur (5-16) against Morristown (9-12), who defeated South Decatur 59-55 on Feb. 6.
The semifinal games are March 7 with the championship game taking place on March 8.
