Prep Report: Baker's career high leads Shelbyville to win at Delta

Hannah Baker made a pair of free throws in the game's final seconds to get Shelbyville a 55-54 conference win Saturday at Delta.

The Golden Bears trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters but hit 8 of 12 free throws in the final quarter to steal the win from the Delaware County champions.

Baker (photo), a junior, finished with a career-high 27 points. She made three three-pointers and went 8 of 11 from the charity stripe.

Savannah Collins finished with 10 points and Jayla Ash had eight to improve Shelbyville to 12-9 (4-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Three Eagles scored in double digits, led by 22 from Griffyn Knight. Jillian Barr finished with 16 and Addison Barnes had 10.

Delta dropped to 14-5 (3-3 HHC).

Shelbyville closes out its HHC schedule Tuesday at conference leader Pendleton Heights (15-6, 5-1 HHC).

Boys basketball

Triton Central 41, Indianapolis Lutheran 25

At Lutheran, Eli Sego scored 18 points to help Triton Central win its fifth straight overall and first Indiana Crossroads Conference contest of the season.

Cael Butler finished with 13 and Silas Blair had six points in his return to the lineup after suffering an ankle injury in the championship game of the Shelby County Tournament on Jan. 13.

The Tigers (10-5, 1-0 ICC) travel Friday to Indianapolis Scecina (4-10, 0-3 ICC).

Waldron 62, Bethesda Christian 45

At Waldron, the host Mohawks trailed after one quarter, 20-14, but gained the lead at halftime and pulled away for the win.

Lucas Shaw scored a game-high 27 points to lead Waldron (8-7). Eli Stewart finished with 15 and Ray Wagner had nine.

Steven Tierney topped the Patriots (5-8) with 15 points. Liam Swan finished with 11.

Waldron is at Southwestern Friday.

Union County 58, Southwestern 30

At Union County, Nick Watterson and Grady Coyle combined to score 44 points to help the Patriots end a four-game losing streak.

Watterson hit four 3s on the way to 23 points. Coyle scored 13 of his 21 points in the first half.

Ben Kahler led Southwestern (4-9), who was held scoreless in the second quarter, with 22 points. Only three other Spartans combined for eight points in the loss.

Southwestern won the junior varsity game, 40-30. Landon Drake led the Spartans with 12 points.

Southwestern hosts Waldron Friday.

Boys basketball

North Decatur 45, Morristown 43

At Morristown, the host Yellow Jackets were outscored 13-3 in the second quarter and never recovered.

The Chargers led 24-18 at halftime and 39-32 after three quarters.

Colin Kieninger scored five of his game-high 15 points in the final quarter but the comeback fell short. Brayden Keithley finished with 12 points and Kellen Crim had 11.

Morristown dropped to 7-7 (0-3 MHC).

Brady Mauer topped North Decatur (6-9, 4-0 MHC) with 11 points. Owen Eldridge added 10 in a game where seven different Chargers scored.

Hauser 63, Waldron 40

At Waldron, Ledger Gelfius connected on five 3s – all in the first half – to keep the Jets atop the MHC standings.

Gelfius finished with a game-high 23 points. Taeshaun Tungate scored 15 and Collin Buck had 11 to improve Hauser to 10-2 (4-0 MHC).

Lucas Shaw was the only Waldron player to score in double digits. The senior finished with 20 points.

The Mohawks dropped to 7-7 (1-2 MHC).

Edinburgh 61, Southwestern 39

At Southwestern, the visiting Lancers used a 23-point third quarter to pull away from the Spartans (4-8, 1-1 MHC).

Avynn Whitaker led Edinburgh (6-9, 2-2 MHC) with 18 points. Connor Ramey finished with 17 and Rylan Londeree hit four 3s on the way to 14 points.

Ben Kahler scored 19 points to lead Southwestern. Clayton Randolph connected on a trio of 3s and finished with 14 points.

Southwestern won the junior varsity game, 42-40. Landon Drake and Dusty Stevens combined for 21 points to lead the victorious Spartans.

Girls basketball

Edinburgh 41, Southwestern 37

At Southwestern, Edinburgh held the Spartans scoreless in the fourth quarter to secure the MHC victory.

The visiting Lancers (9-12, 1-4 MHC) trailed 37-34 going into the fourth quarter then outscored Southwestern 7-0.

Kenna Streeval finished with a game-high 18 points. Kinzie Purvis scored 12.

Tanna Tatlock led the Spartans (3-17, 0-6 MHC) with 15 points. Maci Murray finished with seven.
