Shelbyville scored four runs in the first inning on one hit and Cheyenne Eads struck out 14 while reaching another pitching milestone in the Golden Bears’ 4-0 win over Greenfield-Central.

With Eads’ fifth strikeout of the game Monday, the senior collected career strikeout No. 600. She is the only Golden Bear pitcher to reach 500 and now 600 career strikeouts.

In another dominant performance, the University of Indianapolis commit allowed three hits and walked three. Only one Cougar reached base over the final four innings as she completed the shutout and locked her team into no worse than a third-place finish in the Hoosier Heritage Conference standings.

Greenfield-Central starting pitcher Ailea Dowdy hit two Golden Bears and walked another in the first inning before Addie Heacox took over in the circle.

Eads had already scored on a wild pitch. Anna Shearer came home on Hailey Maulden’s single. Kali Laycock scored on a wild pitch and Sydney Brown grounded out to score Grace Crafton for all the run support Eads needed.

Eads surrendered two walks and a double in the first inning but kept the Cougars off the scoreboard with her first two strikeouts of the game. In the second, she struck out the side to reach 600 career strikeouts.

The first two Cougars reached base in the third but Eads quickly shut the threat down with a pair of strikeouts and a ground ball back to her in the circle and Greenfield-Central (11-9, 2-5 HHC) never threatened again.

Meanwhile, the Shelbyville offense struggled against Heacox, a freshman just like Dowdy. She scattered five hits and walked three in an impressive performance.

The Golden Bears finished 5-2 against HHC opponents and are tied with Class 3A, No. 7 Yorktown (18-2, 4-2 HHC) with two losses in the standings.

Class 4A, No. 3 New Palestine (18-3, 6-0 HHC) has clinched at least a share of the HHC title. The Dragons host Delta (3-18, 1-5 HHC) Friday.

Class 4A, No. 15 Pendleton Heights (15-9, 4-1 HHC) is at New Castle (6-15, 0-6 HHC) today and hosts Yorktown Thursday. If Yorktown defeats the Arabians, there would be a three-way tie for second place with Shelbyville.

The Golden Bears’ final home game of the regular season is tonight against Carmel (8-19). First pitch following the Senior Night celebration is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Shelbyville (14-8) closes out its regular-season schedule at 4A, No. 4 Cathedral (22-3) Thursday and at 4A, No. 11 Center Grove (18-6) Saturday.

Baseball

Shelbyville 8, Warren Central 7

At Warren Central, the visiting Golden Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to advance their win streak to eight straight.

Luke Jackson and Grantland Fitzgerald drew walks in the top of the seventh and Aiden Smith followed with a triple to tie the game at 7-all. Dalton Jones then plated Smith with his third hit of the game for Shelbyville’s first lead since surrendering six runs in the second inning.

Kohen Myers pitched two scoreless innings in relief of starting pitcher Reece Prickett to earn the win. Prickett allowed eight hits and all seven runs (only four were earned) and struck out five.

Smith had two hits, a walk and scored two runs in the win.

Shelbyville (13-7, 8-4 Hoosier Heritage Conference) travels to Greenfield-Central (9-11, 6-6 HHC) today for the start of a two-day, two-game conference series.

Triton Central 3, Oldenburg Academy 2, 8 innings

At Triton Central, Blaine Raider scattered nine hits and struck out six to put the Class 2A, No. 4 Tigers in position to win. Logan Plew secured the final out of the eighth inning, though, and Triton Central pushed the game-winning run across the plate in the bottom half of the inning to improve to 20-3.

Eli Sego had three hits for Triton Central. Mathew Shircliff and Bryce Haney each drove in a run.

The Tigers host Indianapolis Lutheran (12-11) today.

Hauser 14, Morristown 4

At Morristown, the visiting Jets scored in every inning to secure the Mid-Hoosier Conference regular season championship.

Simeon Wasil had three hits, including two triples, scored three runs and drove in two in the victory. R.J. Foster, Joel Bechtel and Nathan Linke each had two hits.

Wasil earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings, allowing five hits and striking out 13.

The Jets improved to 15-9 overall and are 11-0 against MHC foes.

Morristown (5-15, 1-11 MHC) tries to avoid the conference sweep Thursday at Hauser.

Waldron 13, Edinburgh 3

At Edinburgh, the visiting Mohawks scored six runs in the fifth inning and six more in the seventh to defeat the Lancers.

Jacob Bennett had four hits, including three doubles, and drove in two to lead Waldron (13-8, 7-4 MHC). Keith Settles had three hits and scored three runs. J.D. Smith, Jackson Kuhn and Jordan Bennett each had two hits. Jordan Bennett had a two-run home run.

Bennett earned the win on the mound, pitching the first five innings and not allowing a hit while striking out 11. Jordan Bennett pitched the final two innings to close out the victory.

Gabe Bennett took the loss for Edinburgh (10-11-1, 4-7 MHC), who will travel to Waldron Thursday for the second game in the MHC two-game series.

Trinity Lutheran 6, Southwestern 3

At Trinity Lutheran, the host Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the win from the Spartans (2-16).

Jackson Trueblood, Levi Pottschmidt and Chase Bode each had two hits for Trinity Lutheran (9-11). Bode earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Peyton Pollert, who worked 5.2 innings and allowed four hits and three runs.

Southwestern hosts Tri (1-14) Wednesday.

Boys golf

Indiana Crossroads Conference Tournament

At Winding Ridge Golf Course in Lawrence, Triton Central finished fifth in the team standings at 365. Lutheran captured the conference title with a 326. Speedway (344), Indianapolis Ritter (361) and Indianapolis Scecina (363) rounded out the top five with Triton Central.

Lutheran’s Caden Perkins was the medalist with a 78.

Chase Chandler led the Tigers with an 83 which left him sixth in the individual standings and part of the All-Conference Team.

Also competing for Triton Central were Derreck Uhls (90), Garrett Eberhardt (92), Max Ray (100) and Taggy Goul (104).

Shelbyville 164, Connersville 168

At Bear Chase Golf Club, Jake Garrison led the Golden Bears with a 38 to earn the medalist honor.

Also on the Shelbyville scorecard were Logan Reinhart (39), Logan Tobian (43), Brock Wischmeyer (44), Ethan Hughes (47) and Kameron Timberlake (49).

Softball

Triton Central 10, Batesville 6

At Triton Central, Jalynn Keith had four hits, scored two runs and drove in two to lead the Tigers to their 10th-straight win.

Jayda McKee had three hits and Makinah Noel had two hits and scored two runs.

Lilli Fillippinie earned the win in relief of starter Madi Peterson. The junior pitched 5.2 innings and struck out 10.

Triton Central (14-6) puts its win streak on the line today at Covenant Christian (11-8).                        

Edinburgh 12, Waldron 1

At Edinburgh, the host Lancers scored 11 runs in the second inning to collect the MHC victory.

Kenna Streeval pitched four innings and did not allow a hit or a run while striking out six. Kyah Streeval allowed two hits and one run in one inning of work.

Kenna Streeval had three hits and six RBI. Eloise Cox had two hits and three RBI.

Alyssa Benson took the loss for Waldron (5-9, 2-7 MHC).

Edinburgh improved to 7-11 (5-4 MHC). Waldron hosts the Lancers Thursday.

Hauser 8, Morristown 0

At Morristown, Paige McDaniel allowed just two hits and struck out 14 to secure the MHC championship for the Jets.

Isabelle Brunner and McDaniel each had three hits in the first game of a doubleheader. McDaniel drove in three runs.

Abby Hawk took the loss for Morristown.

Hauser 15, Morristown 1

Lucie Asher had three hits while Brunner and Maley Jordan each drove in three runs to complete the sweep of the Yellow Jackets (7-10, 4-6 MHC).

Haven Hartwell pitched four innings and allowed three hits while striking out five for the Jets (18-6, 12-0 MHC).

Mykynzy Smith took the loss for Morristown.

The Yellow Jackets are at Jac-Cen-Del (6-11) Thursday.
