A goal midway through the first half proved to be enough for East Central to eliminate Shelbyville from the Center Grove Sectional.
In the second semifinal contest Wednesday, the Trojans scored first getting a shot past Shelbyville goalkeeper Josue Gil.
East Central doubled the lead midway through the second half and added its third goal inside the final five minutes.
With the win, East Central (12-4-1) advanced to Saturday’s sectional championship match to take on No. 1 ranked Center Grove (17-0), a 2-0 winner over No. 15 Columbus North.
The Golden Bears closed out their 2024 season with a 9-9 record.

Shawe Memorial 3, Southwestern 3, OT (PKs 5-3)
The Class A, No. 11 Spartans scored two goals in the first half but never found the back of the net again in regulation.
Shawe Memorial scored twice in the second half to send the semifinal round match into two overtime periods.
Both the Spartans and Hilltoppers scored in the second overtime session which sent the match to penalty kicks, where Shawe Memorial prevailed 5-3.
Including penalty kicks, Rodrigo Reyes-Miranda scored three goals. Gus Grote had two goals and Bartosz Rychlicki, Tyler Hill and Leo Garcia tallied goals as well.
Shawe Memorial improved to 13-4-1 this season and avenged a season-opening loss to Southwestern.
The Hilltoppers return to Southwestern Saturday for a sectional championship match against Southwestern (Hanover) (9-7-1), a 3-2 winner over Trinity Lutheran Wednesday.
Southwestern closed out its season with a 12-4-2 record.

Indianapolis Lutheran 2, Morristown 0
The Class A, No. 16 Saints did not get on the scoreboard until just under five minutes were left in regulation, then added a quick insurance goal to defeat the Yellow Jackets.
Lutheran improved to 10-5-2 this season and will host Class A, No. 5 Greenwood Christian Academy (10-4-2) in Saturday’s sectional championship match.

Center Grove Sectional
Shelbyville’s Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong improved to 20-2 this season with a 7-6 (8), 7-5 win Wednesday over Waldron’s Lucas Shaw and Cash Young, who entered the sectional with a 13-0 mark.
With the win, the Golden Bears return to Center Grove today to face Union County’s No. 1 doubles team in a sectional semifinal round match.
Shelbyville’s Reece Prickett was defeated by Roncalli’s Christopher Stanley, 6-1, 6-4, to bring an end to his season at No. 1 singles.
